Greetings! I am very happy to be a member of the Aspen School District Family! I moved here in the fall of 2012 with my wife, Megan, my two cats, Mayday & Leo, and our dog, Scout (Though it wasn’t long before we rescued our newest addition – our puppy, Rex!).
Before that, I taught in the Chicagoland area for three years, which is also where I was born, raised, and went to college. I have two bachelor’s degrees from Northern Illinois University (Trumpet Performance and Music Education). I graduated with a full, four-year merit tuition waiver, Summa Cum Laude, with Honors, and as the Student Marshall of my college. I recently completed my Master of Music degree, also from Northern Illinois University, (2013, Summa Cum Laude).
I have been performing professionally since the age of 14. I was the head trumpeter for Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament for 7 years. I have been featured on the Jamie Kennedy Experiment, WGN News, and in the Chicago Thanksgiving Day & St. Patrick’s Day parades. While in the Chicago area, I performed regularly at weddings and with local performing ensembles and was a member of the 6-time national champion Illinois Brass Band, where I played solo soprano cornet.
I want to thank the families, students, and teachers of the Aspen School District for welcoming me into their lives. Making the move to Aspen has been fantastic for my family, and I look forward to many successful years of making music here in the Valley!
I am thrilled to be a part of the Aspen School District team and be a part of this community so rich in culture, beauty, and recreation! This area is the best of both worlds for me, having such a plethora of musical opportunity and access to the most beautiful wilderness in the state. This is a dream opportunity for me and I hope to add to this community with my experience, unique approach, and ability to inspire.
I have had a burning passion for music as long as I can remember and have played piano for 23 years, beginning when I was 4 years old. I competed in multiple festivals, competitions, and recitals throughout my entire life on piano to build my performance chops and learn multiple styles from classical to jazz, musical theater to pop. Growing up in the Denver area I was involved in band and choir through middle and high school as first chair trumpet, the accompanist for the choirs in my high school as well as a singer in the choir, and even composing music for both groups and taking the role as director to lead these pieces. I graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in Piano/Vocal Music Education and began getting involved as an accompanist for local high school musicals.
I began teaching middle school choir in Rifle, Colorado and began to understand the power of music and my love for working with kids. I found great success in a supportive community, doubling the choir in three years to become a powerhouse choral program. I have a great passion for musicals, however, and got involved with Defiance Community Theater as a pianist for their performance of “Beauty and the Beast” before becoming the Musical Director for “Les Miserables” the following year. More recently I was Musical Director for Aspen Community Theatre’s performance of “Beauty and the Beast,” and have been heavily involved with Stage Door Theater Camp, Basalt High School, Grand Valley High School, Colorado Mountain College, and former members of Aspen’s Crystal Palace for various performances up and down the valley. I currently perform Thursdays at the Riviera Restaurant and piano bar in Glenwood Springs.
I hope to bring valuable insight and opportunity from my experiences to the students here in Aspen and build on the thriving musical culture that this town boasts. I look forward to the school year and am grateful for this amazingly unique opportunity!
